![]() Driving it on the highway a decent distance and then turning it off in a few cycles is what did it on that car too. If by chance your problem is actually in the EVAP system, then the first part to replace is the purge flow sensor (PF). Otherwise it's a waste of time to replace the EGR valve. It's important when replacing the EGR valve to CLEAN the EGR passageways in the throttle body. Sitting over night had no effect on the EVAP monitor status. Next, large amounts of carbon are common in the EGR system. This same thing happened on my 2012 Range Rover. After the third highway trip, I turned off the car and came back to the car only a few minutes later and my scan tool said EVAP was ready. In the eight days I was trying to get the monitors to set, I took about three trips of 5+ miles on the highway. What ended up doing for me was highway driving. This is puzzling because I don't think these cars have an EGR system so I would think the EGR monitor would set immediately or it wouldn't include it in the readiness check. A drive cycle will have to be done to set the monitors. All of my monitor set pretty quickly with normal driving except for the EVAP and EGR monitors. Failed because evaporative system and O2 monitors were not ready. In my state (Georgia) you can have one monitor not set and still pass emissions. I went to get Smog Check done little too soon after clearing CEL fault code. I wanted to update this thread with my experience getting my EVAP monitor to ready status on my 2013 328i in case anyone else finds they need help with it too.
